My story
Nobody taught me math. That was the problem.
I taught myself math in a hallway. By the time anyone noticed, I was the best mathematician in my school and on the math team. Sounds like a win. It wasn't.
When you teach yourself everything, nobody ever earns the right to lead you. I didn't respect authority I didn't choose, and it got me kicked off the team. Just like that, the thing I was best at became the thing I walked away from. My passion for learning was dead for years.
Here's what I took from it: talent doesn't protect your kid. Talent without guidance is how gifted kids burn out. I've watched it from every seat in the classroom, and I lived it first.
I'm the guidance I never had. I keep the passion alive, teach kids how to work when nobody believes in them yet, and steer them clear of everything that stunts growth.
